Data protection information pursuant to Sec. 13 Par. 1 Telemediengesetz [German Telemedia Act]

To allow the contractually performance agreed upon, it is necessary for the publisher to store a very limited range of personal data in a form that can be read by machine. In particular, this means:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • E-mail address
  • Location
  • User name
  • Password, as well as
  • IP address, as far as the authentication is done through this address (cf. Point 3)

The stored personal data are identical to the data that you can view, change and print out after logging in to your user account. All personal data will be treated confidentially and will only be passed on to third parties if and to the extent to which the Publisher is obligated to do so by law and/or by court order or is, in an individual case, authorized to do so within the narrow constraints of the Bundesdatenschutzgesetz [German Federal Data Protection Act].

How to choose a secure password

The safest software is worthless if passwords are openly stored or are easy to guess. To protect your own data, please choose a good password with the following properties:

A good password is not the same as the login (user name); it contains randomly placed numbers and/or unexpected capitalization or syllable transpositions.

It avoids typical first and last names and commonly used terms or phrases and instead uses dialect terms, combinations of abbreviations, words that you have created yourself or unusual terms from your favourite novel.

It is so easily remembered that it does not have to be noted somewhere and it is easy to type in.

Very important: Do not send personal passwords, important personal data (credit card number or the like) or changes to important personal data with e-mail. Instead make these changes directly in our registration.

How we store your personal data

Your data will be stored in a secure database that only a very small group of internal personnel can access. We store general uncritical data and preferences in a cookie, if you allow us to do so. Cookies are small, harmless text files that are stored exclusively on your PC and that you can check and delete at any time. Cookies cannot manipulate your PC like computer viruses or spyware can. Naturally you can also shop with us without saving cookies.

Please note: Your password is stored in an encrypted form. No employee of the Beck Group can read it. No Beck Group employee is authorized to ask you for your password on the telephone or in a written message. Therefore never disclose your password if you receive such a request!

We do not store personal data without your consent

We store only the personal data that you report in your registration, so you can check it at any time. We assure you: No links or enhancements with data sources of third parties in order to carry out so-called profiling take place. We use your personal data only in VERLAG C.H.BECK oHG and its affiliated companies. Disclosure to third parties takes place strictly for the limited purposes of debt collection and credit checks. During the registration, if you have consented to receive information we will periodically notify you via e-mail newsletters of new releases and other news regarding the beck-eLibrary.DIE FACHBIBLIOTHEK.

Your rights

You have the right to retract at any time your consent to the storage of your data, effective in the future, by sending a message to the Publisher. Excluded from your retraction are data whose deletion is prevented by legal, statutory or contractual retention periods and also data that are necessary for the substantiation, contextual design or change of your contractual relationship with us and data that must be stored for billing purposes.
